I still remember the day I became part of the 2019 FAME team. The news was announced at the Australian Hair Fashion Awards (AHFA) in Sydney and walking on stage to collect my award felt surreal…it was like one of those “somebody pinch me, I’m dreaming!” moments.
FAME stands for the Fellowship Academy of Merit and Excellence and is the industry’s premier discovery program for the next generation of stand-out hairdressers. Although dozens of hairdressers compete for a spot on the team by submitting a portfolio of creative looks, not everyone has the fortune to be famous! Only four people are selected based on a live skills demonstration in front of a group of Australia’s finest hairdressing experts.
And this year the fab four was Christopher Byrne, Laura Spinney, William Webb – and me! As the winners of FAME, we embarked on a creative and educational journey of a lifetime visiting Los Angeles, New York, London and Hanover and participating in hair dressing seminars, photoshoots, stage presentations and fashion shows – building lifelong friendships along the way.

Being part of the 2019 FAME team has been career-defining for me. My heart is bursting and my gratitude levels have reached an all new high! FAME has taught me so much about business and our industry and it has given me the confidence to believe in myself and take my creative vision to a new level.
As a Creative Director and Master Colourist, I am super excited to share my FAME learnings with the rokk ebony team. Our education programs are an amazing platform to ignite passion, share knowledge and encourage our young rokk stars to reach for the stars – after all, everything is possible with the right attitude!
